The SwampDogs came out of the All Star break with the bats swinging as they defeated the Holly Springs Salamanders 9-6 on Wednesday night. For the SwampDogs, it was their fourth straight victory.
Holly Springs took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning via a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly. The SwampDogs responded in the home half of that inning with seven runs of their own. The inning was highlighted by an Alex Kachler grand slam. The SwamDogs led 7-2 after two.
Holly Springs took advantage of the lone error by the SwampDogs and scored three runs in the fifth inning to get within two runs. The SwampDogs added a run in the sixth thanks to a two out single by Austin Bost and a solo shot by Pearce Howard to lead off the seventh. Howard's home run was the only run scored with less than two outs by the 'Dogs.
The Salamanders added one more run in the eighth, but went in order in the ninth to seal the deal. The SwampDogs improved to 17-15 overall and 4-2 in the second half of the season.
