SwampDogs Outslug The Sharks 11-9 In Extra Innings

It took extra innings on Monday, but the SwampDogs were able to outlast the Wilmington Sharks 11-9 in 10 innings.

The SwampDogs got off to a hot start in the first on a two RBI single from Alex Kachler.  A sacrifice fly from Will Karp then made it a 3-0 lead.  The Sharks however responded with three of their own in the first to tie the game.  The Sharks added a pair of runs in the second to take a 5-3 lead.  They added one in both the third and fifth innings to extend the lead to 7-3.

The SwampDogs fired back in the sixth with five runs.  Singles by Konnor Piotto, Carson Bartels and Sean McGeehan, paired with a Cameron Phelts walk, gave the 'Dogs an 8-7 lead.  That was answered  with a run by the Sharks in the bottom of the inning to knot the game at 8.

The game would remained tied until the top of the tenth.  The International tie breaker rules were then put into effect.  The SwampDogs started the inning with Kachler and Brandon Talley on first and second bases.  Pearce Howard led off the inning with a triple that scored them both.  Howard scored on a bloop single to second off the bat of Will Karp.  The SwampDogs went into the bottom of the inning with an 11-8 lead.

The Sharks added a run in the 9th, but the 'Dogs were able to hold off a further comeback and got the win to improve to 11-10.

The SwampDogs next game is Tuesday for Christmas at the Swamp, as the SwampDogs will celebrate Christmas in June.  It's also TattoosDay, brought to you by New Addiction Tattoos.  Show off your favorite ink and you can win tickets to an upcoming SwampDogs game.  Gates will open at 6:00 and first pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
