SwampDogs Add Defensive Versatility In Latest Round Of Signings

The 2019 Coastal Plains League season is less than five weeks from first pitch, and the Fayetteville SwampDogs have announced another group of signees sure to bring some excitement to The Swamp.

Wright State products Tyler Black and Konner Piotto as well as Georgia College infielder KC Brown are the newest players set to suit up for the SwampDogs.  Black, a freshman from Toronto, Ont. has raised eyebrows during his first season as a Raider. Black has mustered a .318 average with five doubles and six home runs while striking out just nine times this season. The versatile infielder boasts a 1.005 OPS to boot.

"Tyler is a very talented freshman who will be coming to us with a chance to contribute at multiple infield positions," SwampDogs head coach David Anderson said. "He's a very athletic player and natural hitter. We can't wait to get Tyler in a SwampDogs uniform."

Piotto, a junior from Abbotsford, B.C., hasn't had much of a chance to showcase his talents at Wright State this season. He's only appeared in 14 games, but Anderson says Piotto will be a pivotal part of the 2019 roster in Fayetteville.

"Konner is yet another experienced player who is talented both as a player and a leader. (He) is a proven hitter and solid defensive catcher that will aid in shutting down the run game and guiding our pitchers. We look forward to having him behind the plate for us this summer."

Brown, a junior from Rincon, Ga., will also provide utility at the corner infield positions. Before joining the Bobcats, Brown was named to the All-Conference First Team during his time at South Georgia State College in 2017. He was also awarded a Gold Glove that season.

"KC is another guy we're very excited about," said Anderson. "He is an elite defender at the corner infield spots and has proven he can hit for both power and average at the college level. (Brown) brings experience to our team and is going to be a guy that has the opportunity to contribute in many roles."

The SwampDogs begin their 19th summer of fun on May 28th, as they host Catawba Valley. Season tickets, bundled tickets and group tickets are on sale now. Single game tickets go on sale May 1st.  The SwampDogs are a member of the Coastal Plain League.
