SwampDogs Sign Trio Of Impact Arms

The Fayetteville SwampDogs have added three new arms to their roster for the 2019 season. Right-handed pitchers Grant Leonard, Jonathan Cole and Dan Klepchick are set to hit The Swamp in late May.  Leonard, a closing pitcher for the University of Iowa, has had a standout 2019 campaign. In 13 appearances, the Mokena, Ill. native has allowed three runs over 16 innings of work, with seven walks, 14 strikeouts and a 1.69 ERA. The junior has also tallied seven saves, good for second best in the Big Ten.

"Grant brings us a significant mix of experience and talent that will help bolster the back end of our bullpen.," SwampDogs head coach David Anderson said. "He has made himself into a top of the line back end guy in the Big 10. We're extremely excited to have Grant joining us this summer."

Cole, a starting pitcher for Franklin & Marshall College, will join the SwampDogs on the heels of what has been an impressive campaign thus far. In six starts, the Diplomats' junior has thrown 41.1 innings, allowing just eight earned runs while punching out 40 batters and walking four.

"He comes from a great program and has been a key contributor in the starting rotation since his freshman year," Anderson said of Cole. "He had a good summer in the Hamptons last year and we expect the same from him again this summer."

Klepchick, another starter from Monmouth University, has pitched well for the Hawks in 2019. In eight starts, the sophomore has tallied a 3-2 record, hurling 43 innings in which he struck out 35 and walked eight. In his freshman season, the Warrington, Pa. product went 5-1 with a 3.47 ERA and earned MAAC Rookie of the Year Honors.

"Dan is an incredibly talented arm who is coming to us after a season that earned him Freshman All-American honors. He is a true competitor on the mound who comes at you with multiple pitches," Anderson said. "We expect Dan to be a big part of what we do this summer."

The SwampDogs begin their 19th summer of fun on May 28th, as they host Catawba Valley. Season tickets, bundled tickets and group tickets are on sale now. Single game tickets go on sale May 1st.  The SwampDogs are a member of the Coastal Plain League.
