The Fayetteville SwampDogs are pleased to announce the signing of first baseman Alex Garland for the 2018 season.
Garland comes to The Swamp from Georgia Gwinnett College, where he has put together an excellent two years since transferring from Erskine College. The junior from Marietta, Georgia had a solid season in 2017, starting 26 games for the Grizzlies and tying for the team lead in home runs with seven. In 2018, Garland has been on another level. Through 48 starts, Garland has slashed a ridiculous .373/.454/.633 and driven in 49 runs. His nine home runs are also best on a Georgia Gwinnett team that is currently dominating its competition with a 47-10 record. With those power numbers and a 6-5, 248 lb. frame, Garland should add plenty of power to the SwampDogs lineup in 2018.
"We were looking for a right-handed power bat to fit in the middle of our lineup and Alex fits that," said SwampDogs head coach Matt Hollod. "He has been one of the better producers in the NAIA level and we are looking forward to him continuing that in the CPL."
The summer of fun at The Swamp is right around the corner! Make sure to mark your calendars for the season opener on Tuesday, May 29.
