SwampDogs Welcome Familiar Face

The Fayetteville SwampDogs are pleased to announce the signing of pitcher Josh Avila for the 2018 season.

Avila, a 5-11, 180 lb. junior at the University of the Cumberlands, had a brief stint at The Swamp in 2017, going 1-0 with a 1.12 ERA in three appearances for the Dogs. The right-hander shined, striking out 10 and walking just one in eight innings of work.

Avila, who spent two seasons at Mt. San Antonio College before transferring, has appeared in 7 games in 2018 for the Patriots and enjoyed similar success. The San Dimas, California native is 3-1 with a 1.80 ERA and 37 strikeouts over 35 innings of work.

“Josh is a competitor who will give us a chance to win every time out there,” said SwampDogs head coach Matt Hollod. “ He has a good mix of pitches that really keeps guys off balance at the plate.”

The SwampDogs look forward to Avila’s return to The Swamp, with the season set to begin in on Tuesday, May 29.
