FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Peacocks may be flightless birds, but that won’t stop two outstanding ballplayers from Upper Iowa University from lifting off this summer with Fayetteville SwampDogs.
The SwampDogs have signed junior infielder/right-handed pitcher Mitch Moser and redshirt-sophomore outfielder Jacob Greco to the 2016 roster.
Moser, a 6-0, 180-pound native of Atkins, Iowa, will be a key player for the SwampDogs this summer, combining his versatility to play multiple positions with great talent. Greco was named to the Daktronics and National Collegiate Baseball Writer’s Association All-Region second team, and the All-Northern Sun Conference second team. Moser was named the Team MVP for Upper Iowa in 2015, after hitting a team-leading .370 with 13 doubles and five home runs. He’s efficient on the bases as well , stealing 11 bases in 13 attempts and scoring 51 runs.
Moser can also be effective on the mound, with 38 strikeouts in 49 innings entering the 2016 season. He is currently 3-0 with a 2.88 ERA in four starts this season.
Greco, a 6-1, 195-pound Fayette, Iowa product, is a powerful slugger for the Peacocks earning him their offensive player of the year honor in 2015. In his redshirt-freshman season with Upper Iowa, Greco hit .363 and blasted 12 home runs while driving in 58. He ranked top-20 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in seven separate offensive categories.
Greco was named All-Northern Sun Conference First Team and the NSIC Gold Glove Team after his stellar performance both at the bat and manning centerfield.
The Upper Iowa University Peacocks are coached by Mark Danker, a 600-game winner who enters his 26th season as the skipper in 2016. The Peacocks compete in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in N.C.A.A. Division II. Danker is also notable for his cameo in the 1988 film Field of Dreams as one of the ghost players. Upper Iowa University is located in Fayette, Iowa.
