SwampDogs Swing Past Owls

FOREST CITY, N.C.—The SwampDogs offense sizzled throughout the night to back solid pitching in the 6-5 win over the Forest City Owls Saturday night.
Dan Neff (Millersville) led the way with a 4-5 night, his first in the Fayetteville lineup. Neff paced an offense that pounded out 14 hits against the league’s leading pitching staff but still needed to rally in the ninth for the game winning run.
Fayetteville held four separate leads in a well pitched and defended ball game but it was the final lead that stood up. Neff doubled to start the ninth and was moved to third on a deep fly ball by AJ Gallo (Towson). Hunter Dolshun (UMBC) launched a double off the wall to plate Neff for the deciding run.
Dolshun finished the game 2-4 while Hunter Morris (Eastern Illinois) contributed a 2-4 night with two runs scored.
Defensively, Mike Austin (UMBC) struck out five over five innings and kept the Owls off-balance for most of the night. Austin exited in the 6th in-line for the win. Cody Smith (Chowan) powered the SwampDogs through the 6th and 7th innings on the mound, including striking out the side in the 7th.
Nick Yobbi (USC-Aiken) threw a scoreless ninth, with two strikeouts, to close the door and seal the win.
The SwampDogs bump their record to 3-7 while handing the Owls their third loss of the season, dropping Forest City to 6-3.
Fayetteville is off Sunday before returning home for four straight games on Monday night.
Monday’s game is Green Superhero Night against the Catawba Valley Stars beginning at 7:05pm. Fans are encouraged to dress up as a green superhero as they come to the game.
