SwampDogs Sign Two from #6 TCU

Fayetteville, N.C. – – – The Fayetteville SwampDogs have announced the signings of freshman right-handed pitcher Alec Creel (Wake Forest, N.C.) and sophomore infielder Trent Franson (Houston, Texas) from #6 ranked Texas Christian University (TCU). The Horned Frogs are also coming off a very successful 2016 season, finishing 49-18 overall and advancing to the 2016 College World Series.

Creel is a native of nearby Wake Forest, NC and enjoyed a decorated high school career. He was named a 2016 Rawlings-Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American. Creel also earned second team All-Atlantic accolades and was a member of the 16U Evoshield Canes National Team in high school. He was also a two-time Dirty Thirty selection, which is an honor given to the best high school baseball talent from North and South Carolina.

So far this season, he has appeared in six games earning a .333 batting average. Franson saw action in seven games as a freshman in 2016, hitting for a .400 average.

Franson also compiled an elite high school baseball resume, winning four letters at Lutheran South Academy in Houston. He was a two-time, first team All-District honoree and earned first team All-State honors at the conclusion of his senior season. Also in his stellar senior campaign, Franson was named the Houston 5A Hitter of the Year, tallying a .452 batting average with a school-record 52 hits.

“Alec and Trent are coming from one of the best programs in the country,” said SwampDogs head coach Matt Hollod. “Alec is coming back from an injury and will be at 100% when the summer starts.  Once healthy, Alec’s velocity mixed in with multiple off speed pitches will keep opposing hitters off balance. Trent has seen limited action this spring, but is a very solid, hard-nosed player.  He has a great opportunity to fill a big role next year for TCU.  Both these players will be fresh and eager to get onto the field.  They should be great additions to us this summer.”

Be sure to stay tuned during the remainder of the off-season as we continue to periodically announce our new members of the 2017 Fayetteville SwampDogs!
