SwampDogs Ravage RedWolves behind Neff’s Strong Outing

FLORENCE, N.C. –  The Fayetteville SwampDogs (30-18) went on the road to run their winning streak to two games topping the Florence RedWolves (22-23) by a score of 12-4.

The SwampDogs wasted no time getting on the board with back-to-back jacks in the 1st inning following a Matt Morrow (Wright State) sacrifice fly to centerfield. A 2-run homer from Jayson Newman (Cal State Northridge), his 7th since the All-Star break, followed by Justin Hawkins (Clemson) team leading 9th dong of the season put Fayetteville ahead 4-0 after their first trip to the plate.

Jonathan Allen (San Francisco) would tack on another SwampDogs run with a lineout to left field that scored Hawkins from third to put Fayetteville ahead 5-0.

The RedWolves would plate runs in the third and fourth innings to pull within two, but Zach Neff (Austin Peay) proved too much for Florence allowing just one earned run while striking out seven and walking just one to improve to (7-0).

After a lightning delay, the SwampDogs came to the plate in the 7th with some lightning in their bats and, like a scene out of The Natural, the SwampDogs plated 5 runs in the inning. A wild pitch followed by a passed ball put the SwampDogs ahead 7-3. Another passed ball plated the 8th Fayetteville run of the game with a sacrifice fly and wild pitch putting the SwampDogs run total to double-digits at 10-3.

The SwampDogs would continue to pour it on after the rain delay scoring two more in the 8th inning to run the score up on Florence. Justin Hawkins would plate Matt Morrow (Wright State) on a single to put the Dogs ahead 11-3. Allen would bring home his second run of the game on a single with the bases loaded to put Fayetteville ahead 12-3.

The SwampDogs return to the Swamp on Saturday, July 29 for Striking Out Cancer Night against the Peninsula Pilots benefitting the Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation. The gates will open at 6 with first pitch at 7:05. For all your SwampDogs news and updates please visit GoSwampDogs.com and follow us on Twitter @GoSwampDogs.
