SwampDogs Late Rally Comes Up Short

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Fayetteville SwampDogs (23-14) saw their 7-game home winning streak come to an end against the Edenton Steamers (21-15) on Friday night by a score of 13-5.

Fayetteville started the game in a 7-1 hole before trying to mount a late rally in the 5th when Austin Edgette (Bloomsburg) scored on a wild-pitch. Jay Robinson (New Orleans) would follow Edgette’s lead by coming home to score on a passed ball cutting the deficit to 4. Matt Morrow (Wright State) would score the final run of the inning on another wild-pitch, but the SwampDogs would never pull closer to the Steamers with Edenton extending their lead to 6 before Fayetteville scored their final run of the game in the 7th inning on an Andrew Henrickson RBI plating Robinson via a fielder’s choice.

SwampDogs starter Evan Flohr (Michigan State) was tagged for his first loss of the season dropping him to (0-1), while Josh Steele (Hope International) improved to (1-0) on the season.

The SwampDogs return to the Swamp on Monday, July 17 for Nerd Night against the Martinsville Mustangs. The gates will open at 6 with first pitch at 7:05.
