SwampDogs Land Pair on CPL Select Team

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Coastal Plain League announced the members of its Select Team, with the Fayetteville SwampDogs landing two players on the prestigious team.

Outfielder Sky Overton (Soph./Furman) and right-handed pitcher Kodi Whitley (Soph./Mount Olive) will each suit up for the team comprised of the best players and prospects in the league.  The CPL Select team will square off against USA Baseball’s Collegiate National Team on Wednesday, June 24th at 3 pm at the USA Baseball Training Complex in Cary, N.C.

A committee comprised of league coaches, league officials and Major League scouts selected the team.

Overton has been the spark plug of the SwampDogs lineup this season, pacing the team in batting average (.373), on-base percentage (.475), and slugging percentage (.510).  Overton’s seven doubles are fourth in the CPL.

The Coastal Plain League is the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 19th season in 2015, the CPL features 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. The CPL has had over 1,200 alumni drafted and 79 of those – including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander – make their Major League debut; while another notable alum – Russell Wilson – won Super Bowl XLVIII.
