SwampDogs comeback in 9th Seals Victory

HAMPTON, V.A.  The SwampDogs entered War Memorial Stadium sitting a half-game behind the Peninsula Pilots in the East Division standings prior to Monday night’s meeting. By the time the SwampDogs returned to the hotel, they had surpassed the Pilots, now sitting just a half-game behind the Edenton Steamers in the East Division.

The SwampDogs offense didn’t take long to get started as Andrew Henrickson (East Carolina) drove himself into scoring position with a lead-off double in the 1st inning, eventually scoring on a passed ball to give Fayetteville an early 1-0 lead.

Matthew Schneider (Buffalo) would tie things up with solo home run in the bottom of the first inning off of Fayetteville starter Zach Neff (Austin Peay).

The Pilots would tack on another run, this one unearned to make it 2-1, with Peninsula taking that lead in the 3rd.

In the 7th, the SwampDogs gave up another unearned run increasing the Peninsula lead to 3-1.

The SwampDogs would head into the 9th inning down 3-1, before storming back to take a 4-3 lead in the 9th. Matt Morrow (Wright State) would tie up the game in the 9th with a 2-run 2 RBI single with 2-outs in the inning. An unearned run put the SwampDogs on top for good as Fayetteville topped the Pilots 4-3.
