Ladies and gentlemen, the captain has turned off the “think winter” sign and you are free to make your plans for the 2018 summer. The Fayetteville SwampDogs have announced the release of the 2018 schedule!
Hang in there folks, as we make our way through the blahs of winter. Summer will be here before you know it! Just keep the thoughts of warm summer nights surrounded by your friends and family at the forefront of your mind.
The Swamp will open for our 18th summer of fun on Tuesday, May 29th with the first fireworks extravaganza on Saturday, June 2nd. The final home game of the regular season will be Friday, August 3rd with the SwampDogs traveling to Holly Springs the next day to wrap up the regular season. The Coastal Plain League playoffs will be held August 5-11, in a 1-1-3 format.
With the addition of a sixteenth team, the league will now be split into four divisions – North, South, East and West – with four teams being in each. The North will be made up of the Edenton Steamers, Martinsville Mustangs, Peninsula Pilots and Wilson Tobs, while the South will be the Florence RedWolves, Lexington County Blowfish, Macon Bacon and Savannah Bananas. Meanwhile in the West, it will be the Asheboro Copperheads, Gastonia Grizzlies, High Point-Thomasville HiToms and Forest City Owls with the East being made up of your Fayetteville SwampDogs, Holly Springs Salamanders, Morehead City Marlins and Wilmington Sharks.
The majority of the 2018 schedule will consist of divisional games, but a few match-ups with teams from the other divisions are scattered on the home slate.
“We are elated to be entering our 18th season of providing family affordable entertainment to the community,” said SwampDogs general manager Jeremy Aagard. “The SwampDogs staff is working harder than ever to make this the best season yet. As the longest running sports franchise in the history of the city of Fayetteville, we look forward to continuing our tradition of creating lifelong memories with families all summer long!”
