Fayetteville, N.C. – – – The Fayetteville SwampDogs have acquired Florida Gulf Coast University freshman catcher Alex Brait (Viera, Fla.) for the 2017 season. The Eagles are coming off a 27-32 season in 2016, falling in the Atlantic Sun Tournament Championship game. Brait enters his first season with FGCU after a stand-out high school career.
In two seasons at the high school varsity level, Brait hit for a .327 average with 26 RBIs and 23 runs scored. During his senior campaign, Brait batted a stellar .351. In addition, he was the ninth-ranked catcher and 90th-ranked player in the state of Florida according to Perfect Game. Brait was also named a 2016 Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American.
Brait made his first collegiate start in FGCU’s season-opener versus Sacred Heart University where he made four plate appearances and tallied one RBI.
“He’s a true freshman competing for playing time right away,” said SwampDogs head coach Matt Hollod. “He’s very solid defensively and can swing it from the left side which gives us depth and options for the summer.”
Be sure to stay tuned during the remainder of the off-season as we continue to periodically announce our new members of the 2017 Fayetteville SwampDogs!
