Sandhills Senior Showcase

DSC_0661Each summer, the SwampDogs are proud to host the Sandhills Senior Showcase presented by Lumbee River EMC and South River EMC.  The top recently-graduated high school seniors from the area come to “The Swamp” to compete in a friendly atmosphere, with the game’s MVP being awarded the $1,000 Grainger Barrett Memorial Scholarship.

The Sandhills Senior Showcase presented by Lumbee River EMC and South River EMC has been played at J.P. Riddle Stadium each year since 2008.  Grainger Barrett, for whom the scholarship is named, passed away in 2009 after a 35-year career in public service in Cumberland County.  This includes serving as the Cumberland County Attorney from 1999 to 2009.

The eighth Annual Sandhills Senior Showcase was held on June 15, 2015, with Rob Hemmingway of South View High School winning the MVP Award and the Grainger Barrett Memorial Scholarship.

Players for the game are selected by nominations from the high school head coaches.
