Pilots Fly Past SwampDogs

Hampton, VA-Andrew Yacyk hit a pair of home runs and Evan Fernandez added another to send the Peninsula Pilots over the Fayetteville SwampDogs 16-1.

Yacyk hit a two run shot for his first homer of the year in the bottom of the first to give Pilots’ starter Devin Hemmerich all the run support he would need.

The SwampDogs composed a two-out rally in the third inning against Hemmerich when Frankie Jezioro (Slipper Rock) singled as did Trey Vickers (Wichita State). Pat Donnelly (Lehigh) then roped an RBI double to provide the lone SwampDogs’ run of the game. Hemmerich cruised for five innings, allowing just the run, en route to his first win of the year.

Yacyk added his second home run in the fifth inning to stretch the Pilot lead to five.

SwampDog’s righty, Michael Austin (UMBC) was excellent in 3.2 innings out of the bullpen allowing just the solo home run to Yacyk in the fifth.

Peter Moore falls to 0-2 on the year for Fayetteville.

The SwampDogs fall to 2-4 on the year while the Pilots improve to 5-1.

The ‘Dogs wrap up the road trip Wednesday night against the Petersburg Generals at 7:05pm. The game can be heard online at mixlr.com/fayetteville-swampdogs/
