The Fayetteville SwampDogs are pleased to announce the signing of Miami Dade College outfielder David Palenzuela and infielder Darren Seferina.
Palenzuela, a freshman from Miami, Fla., is tearing the cover off the ball for the Sharks, hitting .361 with a .438 on-base percentage and a .513 slugging percentage. His 34 RBIs in 34 games are tied for the team lead, and he is second in both doubles (9) and triples (3).
As good as Palenzuela has been, Seferina perhaps has been even better. On the season Seferina, a freshman from Curacao, is hitting .402 with a .482 on-base percentage and a .494 slugging percentage. He leads the team in triples (4), stolen bases (32), is tied for the team lead in RBIs with Palenzuela, and has walked more times (22) than he’s struck out (17).
Miami Dade College has a rich baseball tradition, boasting Major League Baseball All-Stars Mike Piazza, Raul Ibanez and Bucky Dent among its alumni.
“We’re extremely proud to establish a relationship with Miami Dade, a college with such rich tradition,” said SwampDogs head coach David Tufo. “Palenzuela and Seferina will have an immediate impact in our lineup and will keep opposing pitchers off balance by wreaking havoc on the base paths.”
The Fayetteville SwampDogs are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, entering their 14th season in the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 18th season in 2014, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats.
