Blackburn finished the 2013 season with a 2-1 record and he led all Illinois freshmen with six starts. He struck out 18 batters and walked 11 in his 38.1 innings of work. He was listed as the No. 21 prospect in the state of Illinois out of high school and he helped his team win the regional championship. During his senior year, he went 4-3 with a 4.70 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 53.2 innings. The summer before college, he was undefeated with a 0.93 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 15 innings during the summer state tournament.
Personal: Blackburn is majoring in business and his earliest baseball memory was going to a White Sox game with his dad even though he is a Cubs fan.
