FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Fayetteville SwampDogs are proud to announce three members of the 2014 Big Ten Champion Indiana Hoosiers will make their SwampDogs debut this summer. Kent Williams, Demetrius Webb, and Chris Lowe (pictured from left to right) will join the 15th anniversary edition of the SwampDogs.
This trio may have the opportunity to come more prepared than any other SwampDogs before. The Hoosier coaching staff boasts one of the greatest SwampDogs to wear the uniform. Former SwampDog Shawn Roof is the newest addition to the Hoosier staff and will look to prepare these young men to follow in the tremendous tradition of his success in the Coastal Plain League.
Kent Williams, a 6-3, 200-pound right handed hurler will continue his role out of the bullpen for the Hoosiers and should continue that role into the summer season. The redshirt-sophomore from Noblesville, Ill. saw action in two games in 2014 en route to the Big Ten Championship. His senior season in high school was cut short due to injury but Williams managed to fan 21 batters in 25 innings while only allowing six walks.
Demetrius Webb, a 5-11, 175-pound catcher will add depth to a stellar platoon of game managers behind the dish at The Swamp. Webb redshirted last year but should make a tremendous impact this season for the Hoosiers. The Indianapolis, IN native received many accolades in high school. Webb was placed on the Perfect Game All-Region Squad, First Team All-Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference Selection, Indiana North/South All-Star, District Player of the Year and 4A All-Indiana honorable mention. As a team captain his senior year he hit .361 with five doubles while stealing 10 bases and accumulating a .542 slugging percentage.
The final Hoosier to join the Dogs is outfielder Chris Lowe. The 6-2, 195-pound freshman will solidify an impressive outfield this summer at The Swamp. Wrapping up his high school senior season, he hit .269 with 16 RBIs, four doubles and two bombs. The Hoosiers look for Lowe to have a presence in their lineup as they make the push for back-to-back Big Ten titles.
“These three should make an immediate impact for us on the field,” said SwampDogs head coach Zach Brown. “With a successful CPL alum on their coaching staff and a team looking to repeat as Big 10 Champs, Kent, Demetrius and Chris will be an integral part of our quest for the Petitt Cup Championship. ”
The 15th Anniversary Season of the SwampDogs kicks off against the Morehead City Marlins on Tuesday, May 26, 2015. Tickets are on sale now so make sure to reserve your seat for the best summer yet!
