FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Wilmington Sharks (26-19) won their 8th straight game topping the Fayetteville SwampDogs (28-18) by a final score of 8-1.
The Wilmington Sharks scored the first 7 runs of the game with Luke Morgan (College of Charleston) touching home in the 1st, 3rd and 5th innings for the Sharks.
A solo home run from Dayton Dugas (Wichita State), his second of the season provided the exclamation point and final run of the game for the Sharks as Wilmington scored their eighth and final run of the game in the 7th inning to put the Sharks ahead for good at 8-1.
The SwampDogs offense was held stagnant by a dominant Breydon Gorham (UNC Wilmington) who pitched 7 innings allowing just one unearned run on a Trent Franson (TCU) single which plated Jayson Newman (Cal State Northridge) who reached on an error in the 6th inning.
Mike Farnell (Murray State) stood out for the SwampDogs out of the bullpen striking out four while not allowing a run in the final two innings of the game.
Gorham picked up the win to improve to (6-1) while Shane Bishop was tagged with his third loss dropping the SwampDogs starter to (0-3).
The SwampDogs return to the Swamp on Thursday, July 27 for Diary of a Wimpy Intern Night and Host Family Appreciation Night against the Morehead City Marlins.
