Ranked as the No. 19 overall prospect in the 2012 Illinois class, he chose to play baseball in the Big Ten. He appeared in 11 games as a true freshman and batted .222 with four runs scored, two stolen bases, and drew six walks. That means he drew a walk in 25 percent of his plate appearances. In high school, he hit .370 with three home runs, seven doubles, two triples and 43 RBIs. He was also a 2011 Under Armour Preseason All-American.
Personal: He is a sports management major and he loves Derek Jeter. His earliest baseball memory is playing wiffle ball in the backyard with his father, Mark.
